Overall sales up by 36 percent, motorcycles grew by 60 percent while scooters grew by 21 percent during the month.

Riding high on the success of its mass motorcycle, the 109cc Dream Yuga, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) registered domestic sales of 231,269 units during September 2012 as against 167,973 units sold in September 2011, which translates into a growth of 37.68 percent YoY. Total sales, including exports and CKD units, comprised 242,941 units during the month, a 36 percent increase over the 178,462 units sold in September 2011.

Almost levelling the sales of its motorcycles and scooters with every passing month, the company sold 113,379 motorcycles and 129,562 scooters during September 2012 reporting a YoY growth of 60 percent and 21 percent respectively. “Traditionally September is a lean month for manufacturers.

Despite the slowdown, Honda is bucking the trend by registering a healthy domestic growth of 38 percent in September 2012. With the excellent response to the Dream Yuga in the mass motorcycle segment and production expansion, we look forward to maintaining this growth momentum in this upcoming festive season too," said YS Guleria, vice-president, sales and marketing, HMSI (pictured).

HMSI currently holds a market share of 22 percent in the Indian two-wheeler industry.
