An agreement signed between the the workers’ Unions and Hindustan Motors management will see work resume at HM's Uttarpara plant, which makes the Ambassador car. Work at the plant was affected since April 11, 2007.
Following the agreement, 80 percent of the workforce reported for work, a figure that was higher than the average attendance reported around this time of the year when most workers plan their annual leave.
Moloy Chaudhry, executive vice president, Hindustan Motors and representatives of three registered Trade Unions signed the deal after both sides agreed to certain conditions.
Firstly, the Unions have assured peace in and around the plant premises. In return, the management has agreed to a dialogue and is also working towards the disbursement of loans to workers. The HM management will also review the suspension order of 30 odd workers with a lenient view, on a case-to-case basis.
