Iconic motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson displayed five customised bikes from its 2012 line-up to drive home its message that ‘no two Harley-Davidsons are the same’. All five motorcycles, designed and accessorised by Harley-Davidson, displayed the wide variety of personalisation options available to Harley owners. The bikes, which began as stock models, featured several dynamic changes to the factory original, including upgraded handgrips, foot pegs, handlebars, seats, fuel tanks and fenders.

“At Harley-Davidson, we are passionate about personalisation and self-expression, and are extremely excited to share examples of the kind of customisation available across all our motorcycle families. We appreciate each rider’s unique style and offer them a range of over 5,000 Genuine Motor Parts and Accessories to tailor the form, fit and aesthetics of their motorcycles,” said Anoop Prakash, managing director, Harley-Davidson India.

Meanwhile on January 5, the company has announced the expansion of its CKD production to include two bikes from its Dyna family. The FXDB Street Bob and FXOC Super Glide Custom, previously offered as CBUs, will now be assembled at the company’s facility in Bawal, Haryana, from component kits supplied by its US parent company. As a result of this, there is a substantial drop in pricing. While the Street Bob now costs Rs 9.95 lakh (as against Rs 13.95 lakh earlier), the Super Glide Custom will retail at Rs 11.50 lakh (as against Rs 15.45 lakh earlier). The company has begun accepting bookings for these bikes.

Harley-Davidson commenced CKD assembly operations in India in January 2011 and currently assembles three models from its Sportster family: Superflow, Iron 883 and Forty-Eight. With the introduction of the two new models, the assembly operation now covers five models out of the total line-up of 15 motorcycles on offer available through seven authorised dealerships. The company plans to extend its dealerships to three other cities – Kolkata, Kochi and Jaipur.
