GST impact: Tata Motors slashes Hexa prices by up to Rs 217,000
While the price reductions are across the model range, the biggest benefits are on the Hexa SUV (by up to Rs 217,000), Tiago hatchback (up to Rs 52,000) and Tigor sedan (up to Rs 60,000).
Following the implementation of the Good and Services Tax (GST), Tata Motors has announced price revisions across its entire product range. The good news for prospective buyers is that prices have been slashed across the board with reductions ranging from Rs 3,300 to Rs 217,000 on ex-showroom prices.
While the revised model- and trim-wise pricing is yet to be finalised, prices are expected to be down by as much as 12 percent. Autocar India has learnt the Hexa SUV will now be cheaper to the tune of Rs 104,000 to Rs 217,000, depending on the variant. Prior to GST, Hexa prices ranged from Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 17.57 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The price revision is sure to give a fillip to the big crossover's sales.
Tata Motors has also cut prices of its Tiago hatchback that only recently crossed the 100,000 bookings milestone. The Tiago will be cheaper by Rs 9,400-52,000, which is a massive reduction on an already value-for-money product. Ahead of GST, the Tiago had a sticker price between Rs 330,000 and Rs 584,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The newly launched Tigor compact sedan has also benefited from the price revision. Prices are down from Rs 11,000-60,000. Pre-GST, the compact sedan's prices ranged from Rs 470,000-709,000. The Tigor was already the most affordable of all compact sedans on offer and with the price cuts, the price differential to models like the new Maruti Dzire will only grow larger.
Like many other carmakers in India, Tata Motors reported a dip in sales in June in the run-up to the implementation of GST as buyers preferred to hold off purchases. With the carmaker slashing prices the way it has, potential buyers are sure to feel their gamble paid off.
