GM India recalls Sail diesel variants
September 3, 2013: General Motors India, already in the news for the recent emission issue with the Tavera MUV, has reportedly recalled over 4,000 units of the diesel variant of Sail compact and saloon models for a ‘potential quality-related issue’ in some production batches.
September 3, 2013: General Motors India, already in the news for the recent emission issue with the Tavera MUV, has reportedly recalled over 4,000 units of the diesel variant of Sail compact and saloon models for a ‘potential quality-related issue’ in some production batches.
The fresh recall is for a problem that can lead to a likely slippage or breakage of the crankshaft hub bolt, which can potentially impact the performance of the 1.3-litre diesel engine. However, the recall is not related to the safety of the vehicle.
The company, however, has clarified that the fresh recall has no linkage to the issues related to the Tavera recall, which had seen it call back 114,000 units of the MUV. An investigation into the Tavera issue is ongoing.
GM India has in an announcement on its website said that “production of the Chevrolet Sail Sedan Diesel and Sail Hatchback Diesel has been resumed and the cars are conforming to all manufacturing and quality standards. The customers affected by this (recall) campaign will be contacted individually by our aftersales team and requested to bring in their cars to the Chevrolet Authorized Workshops to facilitate the vehicle inspection and/or necessary repair.”
