Shanghai, November 21, 2012: GM China will hold its annual Tech Day event in Shanghai on November 29. The company will display its latest advanced technology achievements in China and worldwide. In addition, it will officially open the second phase of the GM China Advanced Technical Centre (ATC).
The first GM China Tech Day was held last year to celebrate the opening of the first phase of the ATC. Speakers at this year’s event will include Bob Socia, GM China President and Chief Country Operations Officer for China, India and ASEAN; Jon Lauckner, GM Chief Technology Officer, Vice-President of Global Research & Development, and President of GM Ventures; Wulin Gaowa, Design Director of the GM China Advanced Design Centre; and Dave Leone, GM Executive Director of Performance Luxury Cars.
The first phase of the ATC, the Advanced Materials Lab, opened in September 2011. It has already recorded several milestones, including carrying out the initial low-pressure casting of magnesium, which offers promise for the development of lightweight auto parts, and starting the fabrication and testing of prototype battery cells and complete systems for the development of next-generation electric vehicle battery systems.
The second phase of the ATC will include the Advanced Design Centre, Materials and Chemistry Analysis Lab, Structures and Chassis Lab, and Concept Vehicle Integration Lab. The facilities will support advances in technology, powertrains, electrification and vehicle design for GM on a local and global basis in line with GM’s long-term vision of sustainable urban transportation.
