Ford India has signed a contract with the Directorate General of Supplies & Disposals (DGS&D), the central purchase and quality assurance organisation of the Union Government, for use of the Ford Fiesta by all government departments.

This is the first time the premium mid-size saloon category has been introduced within the DGS&D scheme, and Fiesta is the second car to be approved under DGS&D rate contract from the Ford portfolio after the Ikon. With this, Ford has become the first OEM to receive an approved rate contract in the new open category.

"This approval by the DGS&D is well-timed, opportune and will encourage government departments to purchase Ford cars,’’ said Tim Tucker, vice-president, sales, Ford India.

The announcement comes close on the heels of Ford gearing up towards growing its portfolio in India with an entry into the small car segment early next year. Adds Tucker, "There are more than 80,000 Fiestas running on Indian roads today. And this car is for consumers who value performance, style and great drivability.’’
