New Delhi, July 18, 2013: The aggressively priced Ford EcoSport compact SUV has received over 30,000 bookings since its launch on June 26. The entry-level variant is priced at Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Ford India says it is working to optimise deliveries and reduce the waiting time for delivery.

Targeted at the popular Renault Duster which has sold over 50,000 units in the past year, the EcoSport is available in 10 variants across four trim levels, three engine options in manual and a petrol automatic transmission option and seven colours.

On June 17, EcoSports began rolling off the production line in Chennai and being shipped to Ford dealers throughout India. On July 11, Ford India issued a recall for around 1,000 diesel-engined EcoSports for a potential concern with the placement of the glow plug module. It remains to be seen whether the carmaker’s recall has an impact on the rising sales of the SUV.

Ford Motor Co invested US$142 million to produce the EcoSport at its Ford India manufacturing facility in Chennai.
