Ford India has delivered its 100,000 unit of the Ford Figo in India, 15 months after the car was launched. It has sold more than 60,000 (wholesale and export) units from January to June 2011 as compared to 39,465 units sold during the same period last year, a 53 percent increase.

In June 2011 alone, the company sold 9,145 vehicles, as compared to 8,483 units in the same period last year, a majority of them Figos. In order to meet demand for the car, Ford India is also expanding its engine facility at the Maraimalai Nagar plant near Chennai and working with diesel engine component suppliers.

Ford India has exported the Figo to South Africa, Nepal, Mexico, Kenya and Bahrain and will add many new destinations going forward. Meanwhile, the company plans to set up its second Indian plant in Gujarat. No official statement has been made but media reports suggest that that the company has bought land in Sanand where Tata Motors manufactures the Nano.
