June 18, 2013: Volvo Buses has announced the opening of entries for the third edition of the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award.
Instituted in 2011, the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award aims to reward progressive and practical action in the area of promoting sustainable solutions in urban mobility. The 2012 awards were bagged by EMBARQ India and Indian Urban Space Foundation, with runners up as Praja.
The Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award carries prize money of Rs 10 lakh, which includes a first prize of rs 7 lakh and Rs 3 lakh for the runner-up. Registrations for the award have started with a deadline of August 31, 2013.
The Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award has been instituted to recognise outstanding efforts in the broad area of sustainability. It also seeks to award practical action and engagement with society in this regard. The previous editions attracted a wide range of subjects ranging from efforts to streamline bus services on key traffic corridors to urban planning that addressed issues like city road planning to promoting commuter rail as an alternative for people to commute.
Akash Passey, senior vice-president – Business Region International, Volvo Bus Corporation and Chairman of the Board of Volvo Buses in India, said, "The Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award is in line with Volvo Buses’ commitment to one of its core values – Care for environment. We, at Volvo Buses, believe that it’s not only technology and emission standards that define environment concern but at the base lies the key step of making transport and the environment it operates within efficient and sustainable. Through the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award we hope to mobilise more and more people to come forward, build a shared vision towards supporting initiatives in the area of sustainable mobility. Entries to the earlier editions of the award showcased the impressive work being done by various groups across the country. We eagerly look forward to see this motivation spread wider with the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award 2013.”
The Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award aims at creating a culture of supporting progressive and practical steps, positively engaging the world around us to deliver sustainable transport solutions and thereby better quality of life to millions of people. This includes initiatives both in city transport and long-distance travel. The objective of this award is for Volvo Buses to engage with all the stake holders in public transportation, supporting them and also learning in the process.
