With the domestic commercial vehicle industry likely to post double-digit growth in FY2016-17, Eicher Trucks & Buses, part of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), is looking to make the most of the HCV market.

Eicher, which is continuing with its new product offensive, today entered the fast-growing multi-axle 37-tonne rigid truck segment by launching the Eicher Pro 6037, which was first revealed at the 2016 Auto Expo in February.

Over the past few years, pressure on profitability and strict enforcement of overloading offences by authorities have seen fleet operators increasingly look at high-tonnage vehicles for transporting goods across the country.

The 37-tonne segment has been growing at a rapid pace as operators choose these vehicles as they have the same operating cost as 31-tonners but carry more goods. At present, Ashok Leyland is leading in the category with an over 75 percent market share in this category

Eicher Trucks with its new Pro 6037 is aiming high with the new truck. The company is offering features including advanced telematics, innovative mileage booster real time fuel coaching, cruise control which ensures a fatigue-free driving experience and also offering uptime management, fuel management and trip management services. It has also got a modular high- tensile strength chassis for higher rigidity and stiffness and a cargo body length of 28-30 feet, and a single sleeper cabin.

The Pro 6037 is powered by a proven, high-performance VEDX 5-litre, 4-cylinder engine which develops 825 Nm of torque and 210 hp in Power mode and 560 Nm and 160 hp in Eco mode. The engine is mated to a nine-speed transmission.

Launching the truck today in New Delhi, Vinod Aggarwal, CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles, said, “The heavy duty sector is expected to touch a new peak in the current year with huge growth in the segment based on both replacements as well as additional truck requirements with a massive focus on infrastructure and core sectors in the economy. With our entry into the fastest growing 37-tonne segment, our position in the HD segment will strengthen and we will consistently grow our market share in HD segment from a current market share of around 5%.”

“Eicher also offers innovative and customised service solutions to meet individual customer needs. This is also in line with our pro-customer philosophy where we strive to do everything to ensure the highest level of productivity for our customers, leading to better profitability and prosperity for them. Together we are taking our customers, partners and the Indian trucking industry into a whole new level and that’s our mantra leading to the future of Indian trucking”, added Aggarwal.

In FY2015-16, the 37-tonne segment recorded sales of 11,655 units against 4,874 units in FY2014-15, growing by a massive 139%.

Clearly, Eicher wants to up the ante in the segment with its new Pro 6037, offering not just the best product but also a modern solution to facilitate faster turnaround for the truck owner.

In April, VECV entered the sub-5-tonne light commercial vehicle (LCV) market with its new Pro 1049 series mini-truck, which is targeted at the growing need for last-mile connectivity in semi-urban and urban India. The company is likely to launch a few more products later this year.
