Eicher Motors has won a prestigious international award for its film ‘Safe transportation of hazardous goods’. The truckmaker had also won the previous year’s competition conducted by LASER Europe, a non-profit organisation and a member of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration.

The competition’s jury comprised eminent road safety experts from various countries.

According to company source, the prime motivator behind the thought of the film was a survey conducted by the Central Road Research Institute, Pune, which indicated that 70 percent of drivers transporting hazardous goods are neither aware nor trained in handling procedures and resultant implications in case of an accident. Accidents involving hazardous good carriers, particularly chemicals, can have several detrimental effects including explosions, fires and casualties besides releasing toxic pollutants.

The content of this film was jointly worked out with professionals in the field including some from Indian Oil Corporation, Castrol and the Indian Chemical Council.

The film, first made in Hindi, is also being dubbed in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. It is to be distributed to dealers and customers of Eicher and Volvo India, automobile associations, driver training schools run by Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Maruti Suzuki and others leading private organisations engaged in driver training, state transport commissioners, senior state police officials and also non-profit organisations promoting road safety.
