Kochi-based Ecotech plans to set up a manufacturing facility for fuel filters through a joint venture with Fuel Mag of New Zealand. It is already the sole distributor for the company’s products in India and neighbouring countries. At present, Ecotech sells around 300 units each month to various establishments and general customers.

It already has one major distributor in Visakhapatanam and is in the process of expanding the retail network. The company is also exploring the option of jointly promoting the product with some trading organisations. Managing director, Prasad G Thomas said that a manufacturing unit would be thought of upon reaching sales of 5,000 units a month.

Elgi Equipments in Coimbatore is testing Fuel Mag for its single cylinder engine. The results have been encouraging and the product can help since the engines are used for critical applications like power pack for mobile phone towers. Ecotech is also in discussions with New Holland Tractors. Thomas said that samples supplied are undergoing field trials.

Apart from Fuel Mag, the company has also been the sole distributor for water separators and pre-air filters made by Separ in Germany and the US-based Engineeire respectively. At present, Ecotech supplies these products to ONGC, Shipping Corporation of India, Indian Railways, AC Cargo, Vinayaka Handlers, Visakhapatnam Port Trust as well as the defence and marine industries. Recently, Svenska Technologies, the distributor of Volvo bought Separ water separators for the construction equipment.
