Datsun Redigo mops up over 10,000 bookings in a month

Datsun’s third crack at the Indian car market seems to be its best ever yet, with the new entry level hatchback Redigo mopping up over 10,000 bookings in a month since its launch.

In a bid to take on market leader Maruti Alto, Datsun India had launched the Redigo with a price tag of Rs 239,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) on June 7. The company’s aggressive pricing strategy and claims of 32% lower maintenance costs for the Redigo against its main rivals Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai Motor India seem to have drawn buyers for the Japanese brand.

Commenting on the response for the car, Arun Malhotra, managing director, Nissan Motor India, said, “We have started deliveries of Redigo this month to customers across the country and are delighted by the way the car is being embraced by the younger generation.”

A large portion of the bookings have come from metropolitan areas and Tier 2 cities, the company said. Nissan had recently announced a partnership with MyTVS to improve the reach of aftersales services in the country.

At present, the Japanese carmaker has 274 sales and service outlets for both Nissan and Datsun cars, of which 55 outlets are exclusively for Datsun vehicles. The company plans to expand the network to 300 by the end of 2016.

The Redigo comes with a two-year/unlimited kilometres standard warranty. It also comes with another segment-first – an optional warranty for 2 or 3 years/unlimited kilometres with free roadside assistance. This gives Redigo owners the option of up to 5 years/unlimited kilometres warranty coverage.
