Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), Daimler’s commercial vehicle subsidiary in India, has confirmed a new milestone: sale of 100,000 BharatBenz medium and heavy-duty trucks. This milestone has been recorded in the first quarter of 2020 and comes within eight years of the start of production in 2012.

Commenting on the big number, Rajaram Krishnamurthy, Vice-President (Marketing and Sales), DICV, said: “BharatBenz trucks are specifically designed for India. Reaching 100K truck sales so soon shows how much Indian customers appreciate Daimler’s quality and value. We are very proud to celebrate this milestone and look forward to many more.”

Additionally, Daimler Buses has sold more than 4,500 BharatBenz buses in India since the start of operations in 2015. DICV recently also celebrated important export milestones. Since 2012, DICV has exported more than 30,000 vehicles under the BharatBenz, Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and FUSO brands to more than 50 markets around the globe. Moreover, the company has exported 130 million parts to other plants within the production network of Daimler Trucks since 2014.

“DICV is real proof of the ‘Make In India’ concept. We combine Daimler’s worldwide network and long history of engineering with India’s ingenuity and frugality. That’s how we’ve exported over 13 crore parts from India to all over the world,” added Satyakam Arya, Managing Director and CEO, DICV.

DICV produces and sells in India above 9 to 55 tons trucks as well as BharatBenz buses, Mercedes-Benz coaches and bus chassis. DICV’s state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at Oragadam near Chennai spreads over 400 acres including a modern test track and is home to the company’s headquarters, R&D and training operations.

First unveiled in February 2011, the BharatBenz brand was launched in September 2012 with the introduction of its heavy-duty haulage trucks. The portfolio was expanded with the launch of medium-duty haulage trucks (2013), construction & mining trucks and tractors (2014), and buses (2015). The all-Indian BharatBenz sales and service network of more than 235 touchpoints is being continuously expanded. Since launch, BharatBenz has already produced over 100,000 vehicles – an unprecedented ramp-up in the world's toughest commercial vehicle market.
