CV sales in uptick mode in July' 22

Within the commercial vehicle segment, Tata Motors reported sales of 8522 units in July 2022 for MHCV category.

The domestic Commercial Vehicle (CV) segment remained in an uptrend mode in July with most CV manufacturers witnessing positive sales growth albeit on a low base effect of last year due to the second wave of Covid19. 

For instance, in case of Tata Motors, its domestic CV segment recorded a total of 31,473 units in July 2022, a 44 percent growth over July last year when it had clocked 21,796 units. 

Within the commercial vehicle segment, Tata Motors reported sales of 8522 units in July 2022 for MHCV category, an increase of 57 percent when compared to 5416 units during corresponding period last year. Likewise, ILCV wholesales figures stood at 4475 clocking 33 percent growth over 3357 units in July 2021. Also, the passenger carrier segment grew by 319 percent to 3454 units when compared with 825 units during the year-earlier comparable period. Lastly, even the SCV cargo and pickup jumped by 23 percent to 15022 units in July 2022 as against 12198 units in July last year. 

Ashok Leyland reported that its domestic sales during July 2022 stood at 12,715 units, up 56 percent over 8,129 units in July 2021. While M&HCV trucks grew by 99 percent to 6,596 units during July this year from 3317 units in the same period last year; the MHCV bus segment on the other hand logged 733 units- a growth of 370 percent as against 156 units registered in July 2021. 

Likewise, the LCVs grew by 16 percent to 5386 units in July 2022 when compared to 4656 units in July last year. 

For Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) within its various CV categories, sales of those LCV under two tonnes stood at 3693 units in July 2022, a 3 percent drop over corresponding period last year when it reported 3793 units. Similarly, the LCVs in the range of 2-3.5 T grew by 22 percent to 16,445 over the previous period last year when it logged 13445. Further, in the LCV  > 3.5T + MHCV, the sales grew to 808  units which is 89 percent higher over the previous comparable period when it was 428 units. Further, three-wheelers including e-3W, saw a growth of 103 percent to 4351 units in July 2022 when compared to 2148 units in July 2021.  

Lastly for VE Commercial Vehicles (A Volvo Group and Eicher Motors joint venture), Eicher branded trucks and buses saw sales of 5360 units in July 2022 as compared to 3553 units in July 2021, a growth of 50.9 percent. The Volvo Trucks and Volvo Buses, on other hand, have recorded sales of 121 units in July 2022 as compared to 78 units in July 2021, representing a growth of 55.1 percent.
