February 6, 2013: Automotive component supplier and tyre producer Continental has announced the appointment of Vivek Devgun as plant manager for its tyre plant, Continental India Ltd (CIL), in Modipuram-Meerut. Devgun succeeds M P Tyagi who retired on February 1, 2013.
“It is a great privilege for me to become part of the multinational corporation Continental and its worldwide team of around 170,000 employees and to contribute to the further development of the Modipuram plant”, said Vivek Devgun. In his new assignment, as plant manager and vice-president (Manufacturing) of the Modipuram plant, Devgun will lead the existing Bias Commercial Vehicle Tyre plant, as well as the upcoming radial tyre facility. The new facility will have a manufacturing capacity of 800,000 radial PLT and 220,000 TBR tyres per annum.
“The development of the Modipuram plant is progressing with the ongoing investment projects for commercial radial passenger and light truck tyres and truck and bus tyres. This will positively impact our employees, our customers and the surroundings of Modipuram-Meerut”, added Devgun.
Devgun started his career as a maintenance engineer in 1990 and brings with him a professional experience of over 23 years in the tyre industry. He is an expert in continuous improvement in operations through employee involvement and having hands-on experience in leading tyre plants. Before joining Continental India, he had been working as a manufacturing director in the Rubber industry in India.
Continental India , which is a fully owned subsidiary of Continental Corporation, was founded on July 15, 2011 by acquiring Modi Tyres Company and has two manufacturing facilities at Modipuram and Partapur. The Modipuram plant manufactures tyres for buses and trucks while tubes are manufactured at Partapur plant, 18km away from the Modipuram plant. With a workforce of 1,600, Continental India manufactures bias tyres for buses and trucks (TBX) with an existing plant capacity at 1.1 million tyres per annum. The project for starting production of Radial Tyres for CVT and PLT segment is in full swing and the commercial production of radial tyres is expected to start in October 2013.
