BSES Yamuna Power (BYPL), a power distribution company and a JV between Reliance Infrastructure and GoNCT Delhi, and EV Motors India (EVM), an EV charging infrastructure company, have partnered to set up an EV charging station at Patparganj, East Delhi.

The EV charging station was inaugurated by Manish Sisodia, deputy chief minister of Delhi in the presence of senior officials of BYPL and EV Motors. BSES director V S Verma was also present.

The partners say the smart EV charging station, christened ‘PlugNgo’, is enabled with a state-of-the-art Central Management System (CMS). This, the company says, will help to oversee operations of the EV charger and provide on-site and on-demand customer support. It will also provide information on preventive maintenance as and when required. Depending on the make, an e-vehicle can be fully charged between 45 and 90 minutes. The charging stations under PlugNgo in Delhi are expected to cater to the charging requirements of 15 to 18 cars per day.

The charging station will be equipped with two types of chargers – DC 50 kW with three guns (CCS2 + CHAdeMO + Type 2 AC) which can charge Hyundai Kona, MG ZS EV and Tata Nexon electric cars. A DC 30 kW with 2 Guns (Both GB/T) can charge Mahindra e-Verito and Tata Tigor. The charging station can accommodate two electric vehicles simultaneously from each charger.

P R Kumar, CEO, BSES Yamuna Power (BYPL) said, “BYPL is gearing up to play a major role in the emerging EV sector. We are working closely with our strategic partners to set up many more charging stations. This partnership with EV Motors India is a testimonial to these efforts. Through this association, we at BYPL aim to reiterate our commitment to energy efficiency and sustainable growth. We plan to install more such smart public EV charging stations in the months ahead.”

Vinit Bansal, MD, EV Motors India said, “We are delighted to partner with BYPL to launch our first jointly managed EV charging infrastructure. Mobility is going through a global transformation as we build solutions to improve air quality, make clean energy more accessible and reduce fossil fuel dependence. Through this association, we look forward to transforming the mobility landscape in the capital, thereby accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles.”

EV Motors has partnered ABB, the leading global player in EV fast charging solutions.

The smart charging stations are equipped with an ‘analytic platform’, which will help EV owners get a seamless digital experience. The EV charger at the outlet is integrated to the innovative PlugNgo mobile application that enables end consumers to locate and operate chargers. It is available on both Android and iOS platforms that allow mobile payments, locate charger location, type of connector, and status of chargers in terms of availability and navigation. Remote Start and Stop operation, tracking charging and payment history.

The partners say the tentative total cost of running an e vehicle is between Rs 1.25 to Rs 1.50 per km, depending on the make of the vehicle, which is extremely competitive compared to petrol, diesel and even CNG vehicles. In addition, an EV enables savings of over 30 tonnes of CO2 for a lifespan of 10 years.
