BMW India launches X5 M Competition at Rs 1.95 crore

The BMW X5 M Competition has been launched in India with its starting price set at Rs 1.95 crore (ex-showroom, India). The carmaker has begun accepting bookings for the performance SUV via its online retail platform.

Customers who book their X5 M online before December 31, will receive a special benefit of an exclusive hospitality experience designed by the BMW Excellence Club.

In terms of design, there are multiple areas where the performance-focused X5 M sets itself apart from the standard X5. Some key design changes include the gloss-black, double bar M grille, sportier front bumper with an apron, the M gills on the side, the aerodynamic double-arm wing mirrors, new and more aggressive rear bumper, twin exhaust pipes and a roof-mounted spoiler. There are also staggered ‘M’ light-alloy wheels with 21-inch wheels up front and 22-inch rims at the rear.

Under the hood lies a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that churns out 625hp and 750Nm of torque. The power is sent to all four wheels using BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel drive system, via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. BMW claims that with this set-up, the performance SUV can do the 0-100kph sprint in just 3.8 seconds and can achieve an electronically limited top-speed of 250kph.

Besides the more powerful engine, BMW has also made M-specific changes to the chassis, fitted M-specific adaptive suspension with electronically controlled dampers, active roll stabilization system and ‘M’ compound brakes to provide better handling. The X5 M also gets three driving modes – Track, Sport and Road, to further customise the driving experience.

On the inside, the X5 M gets M specific seats with a quilted design, 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation, BMW gesture control, wireless charging, Harman Kardon surround sound system, panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate and more.

The carmaker also provides a rear seat entertainment package and Bowers and Wilkins Diamond surround sound system as optional upgrades. Customers can also use the BMW Individual service to create a bespoke character with exclusive paintwork and interior trims for their X5 M.

In terms of safety, the X5 M comes packed with advanced features like cruise control with braking function, collision and pedestrian warning with city braking function, adaptive LED headlights, BMW Head-Up Display (HUD), high beam assistant and parking assistant with reversing assistant to name a few, as standard fit.

There is also the option to add the Driving Assistant Professional package that adds steering and lane control assistant, lane keeping assist, active side collision protection, lane change assist, emergency stop assists and the crossroads warning, wrong way warning and front cross traffic alert systems.

Vikram Pawah, president, BMW Group India said, “BMW M is driven by a single-minded passion for creating authentic motorsport functionality with everyday usability. The all-new BMW X5 M Competition inherits this DNA and heralds a new dimension in Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) segment. It is a sublime mix of exclusive ‘M’ elements, an imposing thirst for forward progress, supreme power, captivating presence and ultra-modern interior that epitomizes luxury. The powerful V8 engine and an array of comfort and safety features promise a unique, sporty and exclusive driving experience. The all-new BMW X5 M Competition fulfills the highest customer expectations, not only for agility, dynamics and power but also the expression of individuality.”

In India, the BMW X5 M luxury performance SUV competes with the likes of the Audi RS Q8 and Porsche Cayenne Turbo and is priced in line with its competition.
