In an attempt to give a fillip to its declining monthly sales, Bajaj Auto has launched the CT100 Alloy ES today. The model is the fourth variant of its most affordable mass commuter motorcycle – the 100cc CT100.

The new variant has been upgraded with an electric start option as it comes with a retail price of Rs 38,806 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). The new variant is powered by a single-cylinder, 102cc engine that develops maximum power of 7.6bhp. According to the company, the new CT 100 variant also offers a new decal design, fuel gauge and side indicators.  The Bajaj CT 100 Alloy ES will be available in three colour combinations – black with silver and red decals, black with silver and blue decals and in red shade.

“The new CT100 Alloy ES has been priced at Rs 38,806 for a limited period of time and will be available at all authorised Bajaj Auto dealerships across the country,” quotes the company release.

The CT100 Alloy ES, although the most expensive model among other CT100 variants within Bajaj Auto’s portfolio, becomes one of the most affordable 100cc motorcycles in the domestic market.

The CT 100B stands as the most affordable mass commuter motorcycle in India with a price tag of Rs 32,028 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). The company has positioned the CT 100B for ultra-cost sensitive customers and also targets the typical customer of the TVS XL Super moped.

TVS Motor’s XL Super retails at a starting price of Rs 31,322 (ex-showroom, Pune), which translates into an on-road (Pune) price of Rs 38,553. The TVS moped, powered by four-stroke, single-cylinder, 99.7cc, 4.3bhp engine, claims to offer a fuel efficiency of 67km per litre.

Bajaj Auto’s other two CT100 variants the CT 100 Spoke and the CT 100 Alloy retail for Rs 34,518 and Rs 36,521 (both prices ex-showroom, Maharashtra).

On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp’s most affordable 100cc offering appears to be the HF Deluxe, which retails with a starting price tag of Rs 38,464 (ex-showroom, Pune) for drum brake and spoke wheel variant.

Commenting on the rollout of the fourth variant of Bajaj CT 100 Alloy ES, Eric Vas, president (Motorcycle Business), Bajaj Auto said: “The CT100 is the most compelling offering in its segment. It provides customers with superior mileage and now comes with the convenience of electric start. At an introductory price of Rs 38,806, we expect the CT100 Electric Start version to gain a large number of customers at the entry-level 100cc commuter segment, just the way the CT100 kick-start had done two years ago.”

It can be recalled that when Bajaj Auto had re-launched its workhorse CT 100 two-years ago, the model went on to become one of the top 10 bestselling motorcycles with monthly sales exceeding 60,000 units for many months. To accommodate its demand, the company had to expand the model’s production capacity across the western and northern regions. It would be interesting to note if the new CT 100 variant delivers as per the company’s expectations.
