ALL bags Rs 1,500 crore order for buses

Ashok Leyland, one of India’s largest suppliers of buses to state transport corporations, has received orders for around 4,000 buses from several state transport undertakings (STUs). The order is worth close to Rs 1,500 crore.
The STUs that have placed orders include the Calcutta State Transport Corporation (CSTC), Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), Jaipur City Transport Services (JCTSL), and the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal, the company said in a statement.
ALL will supply a mix of buses that include the JanBus, the Janbus Midi and the ultra low floor buses.
Vinod K. Dasari, managing director, said, “With rapid urbanisation, it is important to modernise public transportation systems and offer technologically advanced transport solutions. JanBus, the world’s first front-engine, single-step entry, full-flat floor bus, is specifically designed for urban transport. It provides several patented features that maximise passenger safety and enhance operating economics for the STUs.”
Earlier this month, Tata Motors said it received an order from the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) to supply 487 units and another for 780 units from the Himachal Road Transport Corporation). The buses are Marcopolo built ones, and the orders are part of the over 2700 orders for Tata buses under JnNURM – II.
According to SIAM, for April-July, ALL had a 30 percent share in M&HCV passenger carriers while TATA Motors’ share was 37 percent.
