Baba N Kalyani, the chairman and managing director of Bharat Forge, has been conferred with the ‘Bharatratna Sir M Visvesvaraya Memorial Award – 2014’ award by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry at a function organized in Bengaluru, on the occasion of Founder’s Day Celebrations on September 20.
Marking the occasion were D V Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister for Railways; Dr Narendra Jadhav, former Member of the Planning Commission of India; S Sampathraman, president, FKCCI and many other distinguished leaders from the business community, members of the chambers, academicians, economists, legislators and policy makers. Speaking at the occasion, S Sampathraman said, “We are proud of his achievements and we deem it a privilege to honour Mr Baba Kalyani the ‘Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya Memorial Award 2014.”
Commemorating the birth anniversary of Sir M Visvesvaraya, the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry instituted the Visvesvaraya Memorial Award in the year 1999 to recognise and acknowledge the outstanding efforts of distinguished persons who have significantly contributed to the economic and social development of India and the state of Karnataka. Infosys’ NR Narayana Murthy, Wipro’s Azim H Premji and Dr Devi Shetty, chairman and Founder, Narayana Health (Narayana Hrudayalaya), are some of the eminent past recipients of this award.
