Auto Expo 2014: Chevrolet reveals Adra compact SUV concept
Chevrolet took the wraps off a new concept compact SUV called the Adra.
Chevrolet took the wraps off a new concept compact SUV called the Adra. This new concept is based on General Motors’ global small-vehicle platform, also called Gamma 2. The concept was developed entirely by Indian designers at GM’s technical centre in Bangalore.
The new Chevrolet Adra will be pegged against the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. It is likely that it will be powered by a tweaked version of the same 77bhp 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine from the Chevrolet Sail and Enjoy.
The Adra looks both macho and sleek and GM’s designers have done a good job of blending sleek styling and neat lines into the rugged silhouette.
Lowell Paddock, GM India president and managing director, stated that this concept represents a “new possibility for the carmaker” in the fast-growing compact segment.
Interestingly, GM India already has a compact SUV, the Trax, but since it’s designed with European customers in mind, the Trax is 4.2 metres long, which means it won’t qualify for the excise benefits in India and cannot be priced competitively.
Other Chevrolet reveals at the Auto Expo include the updated Beat hatchback which now has new bumpers, new mirrors, a new rear spoiler with LED inserts, and re-profiled head- and tail-lights.
There are also the stunning-looking Chevrolet Corvette and the new Corvette C7 Stingray sportscars at the stall, enough to draw showgoers with their muscle power.
