The Bengaluru-based company has reported strong consumer demand in markets like Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka. On October 23, Ather delivered 250 units of the Ather 450X in Bengaluru on Diwali.
Ather is also benefitting from its network expansion programme. The EV OEM, which has outlined plans to expand from 56 outlets in 50 cities at present to 120 showrooms in 95 cities by end-FY2023, inaugurated eight new experience centres in Pondicherry, Jodhpur, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Vellore, Ludhiana and Madurai.
In October, Ather installed its 580th fast-charging point in India – the Ather Grid – and expanded its EV charging network across 56 cities in India. The company plans to install 820 more grids, taking the count to 1,400 by the end of FY2023. At present, the company has India's largest fast-charging network for two-wheelers with Ather Grids strategically installed across markets, 60% of them in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
Commenting on the October 2022 sales, Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer, Ather Energy, said: “We’ve had a great festive season and have registered record sales over the past couple of months. This month we crossed 8,000 retail sales, with demand coming from across the country. Importantly, the growth came from new as well as existing cities, and we expect this momentum to get stronger over the next few months.”
He added, “Having addressed the supply chain issues over the last few months, our focus is now on servicing the strong demand that we are seeing, and ensuring that we keep the waiting period down to a bare minimum for our customers. In our endeavour to build accessible charging infrastructure to fast-track EV adoption, this month we achieved a major milestone of having installed 500 charging stations across India. This possibly makes us the biggest fast charging network for two-wheelers in the country. We have also added eight retail outlets this month and are investing aggressively to ensure our scooters are easily accessible across the country.”
Production ramp up
What is helping Ather achieve better numbers is the improved supplies to its showrooms across the country. Speaking to Autocar Professional in September, Ravneet S Phokela, chief business officer, Ather Energy, had said most supply chain challenges have been resolved and the company is aiming at full manufacturing capacity utilisation – 10,000 units per month for the remaining months of FY2023. It will then graduate to starting off its second production line within the 400,000-unit annual capacity Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu.
