Chennai, June 18, 2012: Close on the heels of an order for 50 vestibule buses from the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) on June 6, Ashok Leyland has announced the winning of another order from the same company for 88 AC buses worth US$ 6.5 million (Rs 36 crore) under the Indian Line of Credit scheme offered for the improvement of urban transportation in that country.

The contract was signed by Antony Lobo, special director - International Operations, Ashok Leyland and M M Iqbal, chairman-BRTC, in the presence of Abdullahel Karim, director-technical, BRTC and I A Tipu, chairman, Ifad Group, at Dhaka last week.

Vinod K Dasari, managing director, Ashok Leyland, said that winning this order is yet another significant step towards achieving the company’s vision to be among the Top 10 Truck and Top 5 Bus manufacturers globally. “This also represents our commitment to partner BRTC in the process of taking urban transportation in Bangladesh to a new level and underscores our preeminent status as the leading CV player in that country.”

This order will add to the over 11,000 vehicles comprising different models that have been exported to Bangladesh. Ashok Leyland exported 12,852 vehicles last year, recording a growth of 25 percent.
