Ashok Leyland sells 2,132 CVs in June

The pandemic and lockdown that is in place across the country continued to dampen consumer sentiment.

Ashok Leyland, the second largest commercial vehicle OEM in the country, sold 2,132 CVs in June 2020. This is a sharp 82 percent drop in sales YoY (June 2019 sales:12085 units). The pandemic and lockdown that is in place across the country continued to dampen consumer sentiment.

June sales for the company comprised 559 M&HCV trucks (-91% YoY) and 13 buses (-99% YoY). In terms of LCVs,the company sold 1,560 units (-64%).

For Q1 FY2021, Ashok Leyland sold 38,004 CVs (-91%), comprising of 21,095 M&HCV trucks (-97%), 13 M&HCV buses (-100%) and 12,671 LCVs (-79%).

The CV sector along with the rest of the automotive industry has been facing a turbulent time for a number of reasons even before the pandemic crippled businesses globally. Several factors including weak economic activity, transition to BS VI and revised axle norms have impacted sales adversely.
