New Delhi, January 6, 2014: Ashok Leyland has launched its next-generation heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) called Captain 2523 tipper, the first model of the series that will include tippers, tractors and haulage vehicles. It will be manufacturerd at the company’s Pantnagar plant in Uttarkhand. Powered by 160hp-360hp in-line and CRS engine, coupled with a highly durable transmission, the HCV has heavy duty aggregates and will be available across 16- to 49 tonnes GVW.
The company says the Captain series will ensure higher fuel efficiency, increased vehicle uptime, faster turnaround and will reduce vehicle operating costs. It has an electric and electronic architecture with self-diagnostic capability. This, it says, is to address growing demand for higher efficiency trucks in the country.
The Captain HCV, which is targeted at fleet operators, has undergone rigorous testing over several parameters and also delivers lower NVH levels. The vehicle will cost between Rs 21 lakh and Rs 25 lakh.
The Captain’s cab will be available in three variants – economy, standard and deluxe – across three functional configurations (day cab, sleeper cab and a high-roof cab), depending on the application. Tippers will be available in three GVW modes: 16-, 25-, and 31 tonnes for surface transport and deep mining.
The CAPTAIN will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo 2014 to be held in Delhi next month.
