Ashok Leyland bags major projects from Africa worth Rs 486 crore

Ashok Leyland has bagged two large integrated transport projects in Tanzania and Zimbabwe, together worth $ 79.2 million (Rs 486 crore).

Ashok Leyland bags major projects from Africa worth Rs 486 crore

Ashok Leyland has bagged two large integrated transport projects in Tanzania and Zimbabwe, together worth $ 79.2 million (Rs 486 crore). Besides the supply of trucks, buses, LCVs, spares and allied support services (including training and developmental consultancy), these  projects will address a variety of mobility requirements in various tourism and economic development programs.

Both projects have been financed by Exim Bank these projects under its NEIA scheme that supports project exports from India.

Vinod K Dasari, managing director, Ashok Leyland, said, “We have made a conscious effort to provide thrust to our international operations, and Africa is a very important part of this strategy.  These projects are a continuation of the many pilots we have done across Africa to offer integrated offerings and these orders have been won in the face of stiff global competition.”

Recently, Ashok Leyland received obtained an order of 630 buses from private bus operators in Sri Lanka which was in addition to an order for over 2,000 Viking buses. The order worth of $17 million (Rs 104 crore) is backed by the Sri Lankan government.
