Global IT services, consulting, and business solutions organisation Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced a partnership between its strategic unit – TCS iON – and the Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC) to reimagine and scale ASDC’s initiatives to identify potential candidates, equip them with the necessary skills, and match them with appropriate job opportunities in the automotive sector.

ASDC is the first Sector Skill Council (SSC) embracing this transformation of moving ahead with digital transformation of the way the Skill Council operates in India. This collaboration is expected to bring various value propositions for ASDC such as standardisation of processes, digital affiliation and audit trails for better control and integration.

ASDC is embarking on this transformation with the active support from Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), and the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA).  ASDC supports the Government’s Skill India program and schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY) that seek to enhance the skills of young aspirants to make them more relevant and qualified for employment in the automotive industry.

ASDC envisions making India self-sufficient in the availability of skilled personnel for sustaining growth and increasing competitiveness of the domestic automobile industry. ASDC has over 240 training partners, 800 certified assessors, 14 expert groups with 295 industry experts and over 2000 training centres.

TCS iON to develop classroom and digital learning modules
TCS iON will closely work with the Skill Council to understand the dynamic workforce requirements of the industry and accordingly develop classroom and digital learning modules based on its unique ‘Phygital’ Learning Methodology.

The Digital Assessment Platform will help conduct knowledge and skill assessments and an intelligent algorithm will carefully match the skilled youth to the right jobs, at speed and scale. TCS iON will also bring ASDC’s training partner ecosystem onto the same platform and help the Council manage affiliations, enhance quality of delivery, and improve transparency.

“We are pleased to be associated with ASDC to digitally reimagine their training, skilling, and placement initiatives. Our digital learning, assessment and process management platforms will help impart skills at scale and address an important national priority, which is to create a skilled workforce and generate employment,” said Venguswamy Ramaswamy, Global Head, TCS iON. “This partnership between TCS iON and ASDC sets a precedent and serves as a role model for all the other sector Skill Councils in the country, which are looking to make a meaningful impact.”

Nikunj Sanghi, chairman, ASDC, added, “We at ASDC are very excited about our partnership with TCS iON. Their expertise in skilling, coupled with industry-leading digital technology prowess will enable us to achieve our purpose of continually developing and upgrading automotive skills through skilling and up-skilling.”

“This endeavour will focus on creating an automated digital assessment process, a digital learning hub, and a listing platform for jobs and candidates. Fully supported by the auto industry, this will enable us to meet the objectives and aspirations of all stakeholders, (including job aspirants, employers and the Government) towards meeting Skill India/Make in India objectives by creating value additions through Skilling/Up-Skilling for Human Capital creation and enhancement which would lead to more economic activity and consequent additional jobs,” added Sanghi.
