APM Tech pitches 3D optical metrology as solution for sheet metal forming problems
The workshop saw intricate issues of tool maintenance and demystification of Forming Limit Curve (FLC) and material testing and analysis using optical metrology being addressed.
Delhi-based APM Technologies, importer of photogrammetry, scanning and deformation systems built by Germany’s GOM GmBH, recently conducted a workshop in Pune.
Representatives of the sheet metal-related industry had gathered at a common platform in the automotive belt of Pune, in Maharashtra, to discuss the numerous operational problems being faced in the area of sheet metal processing.
With quality control of components such as dimensional analysis, component fitting, feature optimisation and curve-based analysis being the major critical challenges, the workshop addressed these topics and sought answers to the challenges by eminent panellists like Pieter Schuer, managing director, GOM Asia.
Representatives from major automotive OEs in the Maharashtra belt, including Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Volkswagen India, Bajaj Auto, Tata Technologies, John Deere and JBM to name a few, and with participation also from IIT Bombay, intricate issues of tool maintenance and demystification of Forming Limit Curve (FLC) and material testing and analysis using optical metrology were carried out.
One of the leading contributors, Dr Narasimhan, Professor IIT Bombay and Head SMFRA, also shared the parameters that affect the quality of sheet material forming and method of analysis of material properties using FLC.
Some essential elements of the workshop also included live demonstration of equipment for tool and die optimisation, tracking and virtual assembly, quality control, inspection of sheet metal parts and strain measurement for material analysis, all through utilising optical metrology systems.
