ACMA, the apex industry body of the Indian auto component sector, has welcomed the announcement of the new automobile and auto component policy by the Tamil Nadu government to give a boost to the automotive industry and investments in the state. The policy envisages setting up of an exclusive auto city – India’s first – to cater to the needs of both domestic and global auto manufacturers in component designing, prototyping and manufacturing.
Congratulating the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa, on launching a progressive policy, ACMA president Harish Lakshman said, “The announcement of the new automobile and auto component policy 2014 is indeed a welcome step, especially in light of the fact that the industry is passing through one of the most challenging phases. We hope that the policy will further bolster the confidence of the automotive industry in the state. Positive measures such as setting up of an auto city, the auto supplier park, and the Automotive Industrial Development Centre (AIDC) will attract fresh investments into the state as well as facilitate creation of the much needed talent pool to meet the long term skilled manpower requirement of the industry.”
ACMA is delighted to be nominated as a member of the Automotive Consultative Committee and looks forward to making a positive contribution to the growth and development of the automotive industry in the state,” added Lakshman.
Furthermore, ACMA also expressed satisfaction on the focus in the policy on infrastructure development which includes rail-port connectivity facilitating easy and speedy movement of consignment, effluent treatment plants, drainage, solid waste management, power, gas and water, among other features.
