The Asli Naqli pavilion once again made its appearance at the Auto Expo, like it has in previous editions. Spearheading ACMA’s awareness campaign against counterfeits it was inaugurated by Ambuj Sharma, joint secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises. The pavilion also has an IPR Cell, which is a first initiative of its kind to offer advisory to an exhibiting company against display of its company’s counterfeits by any infringing company. In the recent past over 500 raids have already been conducted through the common raids program under the aegis of ACMA and the apex body representing automotive component manufacturers is further garnering support from its membership to strengthen this unique initiative.

Speaking at the inauguration, Arvind Kapur, President, ACMA, said: “A 36 percent share of parts sold in the replacement market are counterfeit products, raising concern and emphasising the need for safety for prevention of road accidents. Around 20 percent of all road accidents in India are directly or indirectly attributed to the use of counterfeit automotive parts (as per ACMA – E&Y Study).

The Asli-Naqli show will see 16 leading component manufacturers participating to create awareness against counterfeiting and display the difference between genuine and fake products to promote the cause of industry in its fight against counterfeits.

Vinnie Mehta, executive director, said that “another key highlight of ACMA’s campaign against counterfeiting is the National seminar on Brand Protection through IPR management to be held during the Auto Expo 2012. This seminar will highlight the issue of grey imports and the border-related measures to curb import of counterfeit auto parts. Various remedies/packaging solutions to be launched in India and other countries will also be deliberated upon by legal and industry experts at this national seminar.”
