Ford India has announced that its EcoSport compact SUV, which is manufactured at the company’s Chennai plant, has crossed the 200,000 sales landmark comprising both domestic (112,085) and export (87,915) sales.
The carmaker began production of the EcoSport, which had its global reveal at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi, on June 17, 2013. The vehicle had received a very good initial response from Indian customers, bagging a record 60,000 bookings within 30 days of introduction. In 2013-14, Ford India sold 45,008 units and went on to sell another 52,058 units in 2014-15. In the current fiscal year, 15,019 EcoSports have been sold in the April-July 2015 period.
“The EcoSport, since its launch, has been appreciated for its compelling value proposition and we would like to thank all our customers for their patronage,” said Anurag Mehrotra, executive director (Marketing, Sales & Service), Ford India. “The EcoSport created the compact SUV segment and dominates the market owing to its unmatched value. The 200,000 sales milestone is yet another testament to the inherent strengths of our compact SUV that continues to set new benchmarks even in a challenging market.”
The India-made EcoSport, which topped J D Power’s Initial Quality Study (IQS) for 2014 in the SUV segment, is also exported to South Africa, Taiwan, Australia and some European countries.
