Zaheerabad, Andhra Pradesh, March 6, 2013: Mahindra & Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector has announced the launch of its first tractor manufacturing plant in Zaheerabad, Andhra Pradesh. The new plant was inaugurated by the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Kiran Kumar Reddy and several ministers of the state government.
Anand Mahindra, chairman, Mahindra Group and Dr Pawan Goenka, president, Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors, M&M were present along with other senior officials from Mahindra.
The plant, built at an investment of over Rs 300 crore, will have an installed capacity of 100,000 tractors per annum. This can be scaled up to meet additional demand. The new facility, built to meet international manufacturing standards is spread across 80 acres and is built over 60,000 square metres, making it the largest tractor plant in India.
M&M is India’s largest tractor manufacturer and among its key domestic brands are Bhoomiputra, Sarpanch and Yuvraj and Swaraj, the last being the result of its acquisition of Punjab Tractors, five years ago. The company also has tractor subsidiaries in the US and China.
