Yamaha Motor Co has launched a new Mio125 scooter in Indonesia. The scooter features the next-generation compact Blue Core engine, whose displacement for the new model has been increased from the current 115cc Mio J. In Indonesia, the Mio125 is priced 13,980,000 rupiah (Rs 70,324) and Yamaha is targeting an ambitious 860,000 units in the first year of sales.

Targeted at youth, the Mio125 model features a lightweight body with a kerb weight of 92kg (same as the current 115cc Mio J), a newly-designed high-rigidity and lightweight frame that enables agile riding, layered image design expressing a feeling of lightness and agility, and improvements in various user-friendly features and storage spaces ideal for a commuter motorcycle.

Yamaha Motor Co’s Blue Core engine tech, aims to improve riding enjoyment, fuel efficiency and environmental performance, is betting big on this technology globally. According to the manufacturer, the Blue Core engine meets the goal of improving fuel efficiency of motorcycles and scooter models by 50 percent compared to Yamaha Motor models in 2008.

The first-generation Mio was launched in 2003, creating the trend for automatic transmission scooters – particularly amongst women – with its superior fuel efficiency, ease of riding, convenience, and style. Previously, the market had been dominated by models with manual transmission and an underbone frame. This model led the expansion of the market, and it remains one of Yamaha Motor's mainstays. This complete revamp, which includes the upgrade to the Blue Core engine, further increases the Mio's competitiveness, and Yamaha Motor expects it will contribute to an expansion in sales.

Manufacturing and sales is being undertaken by Indonesian group company PT. Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing.
