Volvo Cars has reported May retail sales result of 39,919 cars with continued growth in Western Europe and the first new XC90 cars starting to reach customers. More than 36,000 pre-orders have been placed for the XC90 so far.
Western European sales grew by 8.6 percent, mainly driven by Southern European markets and strong demand for the Volvo V40 and XC60 models. Spain and Italy were up by 54.7 and 13.7 percent, respectively. Sweden retains its strong market share at close to 20 percent with the Volvo XC60 and XC70 models as best-selling models.
Volvo Cars’ largest market is China where retail sales amounted to 6,967 units in May with sales for the locally produced S60L and XC60 models up 11.5 and 12.6 percent, respectively. Sales in the US market were flat with 5,023 retail deliveries with the XC60 and S60 models the top sellers.
