Tata Motors pushes HCV exports, launches Prima in the UAE and Oman

Tata Motors has posted 7.51% YoY growth this fiscal with overseas shipments of 41,067 CVs.

Tata Motors is aggressively driving its commercial vehicle export programme. The company, which has notched 7.51 percent YoY growth in this fiscal with overseas sales 41,067 units, today launched its range of Prima heavy commercial vehicles in the UAE and Oman.  

In the UAE, two variants were launched in Dubai with dealer-partners United Diesel and in Abu Dhabi with Dalma Motors. In the UAE, the Prima 4438.S (4X2) tractor head and Prima 4038.K (6X4) construction tipper have been introduced. In Oman the Prima will be available as a prime mover, rigid tipper and tanker in 4x2 and 6x4 configuration, with the Prima 4438.S and the Prima 4038.K catering to fleet owners, goods transportation, construction and waste management companies.

Developed with Tata Motors’ subsidiary Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicles (TDCV), the Prima range has set new benchmarks in performance and design of a next-generation commercial vehicle, based on superior technology, optimum power, fuel efficiency and safety. Called ‘World Truck’ by Tata Motors, the Prima is built with technical inputs from across the world, the Prima is based on an Italian cab design, engine technology from the US and Europe, gearbox expertise from Germany, chassis frame know-how from Mexico, sheet metal dies from Japan and Korea, combining Swedish precision on a robotic weld line.

Commenting on the launch, Ravindra Pisharody, executive director, Commercial Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “The launch of the Tata Prima brand in Oman and the UAE is an important milestone in Tata Motors’ continued expansion in the GCC region. The Tata Prima is available in different trims, including multi-axle trucks, tractor-trailers and tippers, apt for several applications. With the range extending up to 49 tonnes and engine options upto 560 hp, the Prima is claimed to be an ideal workhorse for movement of goods and material across distances and terrains, at the same time delivering efficiencies.

Among the vehicle’s highlights is that its cab focuses on driver comfort. The cockpit is both functional and visually ergonomic with a separation in terms of the working and living area. The cabin is air-conditioned, with roomie occupants’ space, including reclining seats, armrests, an adjustable steering system, a music system and Global Positioning System (GPS) as a standard feature.
