Saint-Gobain has acquired Pritex, a key player in acoustic and thermal insulation solutions made from polymer-based composite materials and intended for the mobility market.

This acquisition will allow the Mobility business unit of Saint-Gobain High Performance Solutions to expand its business model beyond automotive glazing and become a provider of solutions in the mobility market for comfort, safety and energy saving. With the development of electric vehicles, the need for differentiated noise control and lightweight solutions is gaining momentum. Pritex’s expertise in thermo-acoustic insulation materials and design combined with Sekurit’s thin glazing capabilities enables an extended offer for customised acoustic and thermal solutions for the automotive market.

Pritex employs 240 people and clocked close to 20 million euros (Rs 155 crore) in sales in 2018. The 60-year old company, based in the United Kingdom, is developing a strong presence in Europe.

Pritex has been an established manufacturer in the automotive supply chain since 1984, and currently sells into most the major OEMs in the European area, on either a Tier 1 or Tier 2 supply basis. A substantial part of Pritex’s technical production is exported world-wide, supporting its OEM clients in all of their manufacturing locations.

Pritex, which operates an automotive quality system certified to IATF 16949:2016, offers full in-house project management, incorporating product design and development, CAD modelling, tooling design and tooling manufacture. Depending on the nature and complexity of the finished product, it can also support its client base through dedicated in-house bespoke machinery design and manufacture for more intricate component assembly and finishing operations. An integral and invaluable part of the product development and validation chain are the Pritex Laboratories, where nearly all elements of acoustical and environmental (lifecycle) validation can be performed.
