SAIC-GM-Wuling has launched the 2019 Baojun 530. The compact SUV features an all-new continuously variable transmission (CVT) and a new engine for smoother, more economical performance along with greater power.

As is known, the Baojun 530 is also headed for India. It will be MG Motor India’s first product for India and will go on sale by the first half of 2019 as a re-styled and re-engineered version. Testing has already commenced for this SUV.

The CVT has been developed by SAIC Motor and Bosch. Working in tandem with the engine, the transmission offers multiple driving modes, including Eco, Sport, Snow and AMT (simulating eight gears). It analyses road conditions through information gathered from its sensors, switching gears to deliver a pleasing driving experience with smooth acceleration and deceleration. The CVT allows the engine to maintain optimal power output and get the most out of its performance in each rev range. An independent planetary gear structure improves power transmission efficiency and fuel economy.

New engine with Honeywell turbo
SAIC-GM-Wuling says the new-generation engine in the 2019 Baojun 530 generates a segment-leading 111 kW of power. The engine is equipped with the latest turbocharger from Honeywell. Its lightweight, low-inertia turbo comes into play at 1,000 rpm, boosting peak torque to 250 Nm at 1,600 rpm.

The engine employs a new highly efficient combustion system. The engine’s optimised intake duct’s tumble ratio has been increased from 1.8 to 2.35. This produces greater intake pressure and a higher compression ratio, further reducing the engine’s fuel consumption by 10 percent.

The new engine uses a large quantity of aeronautical materials such as high-strength, lightweight and heat-proof alloys. The reliability of the engine has been ensured by more than 10,000 hours of limit tests, deep thermal shock tests and 300,000 kilometres of simulated testing on its service life.

The interior is roomy and functional, as well as practical, with well-appointed configurations. It comes with a new large LCD instrument cluster that is connected to the center console display for dual-display functionality. This provides the driver enhanced convenience and gives the interior a high-tech feel.

The compact SUV is available in three variants – AT Elite, AT Luxury and AT Prestige – with a price range of RMB 88,800-102,800 (Rs 905,468 – Rs 10 lakh). Those who purchase the 2019 Baojun 530 can receive a loan with zero interest for 18 installments, a RMB 3,000 subsidy (Rs 30,590) for trading in their old vehicle and a Baojun 530 exclusive gift package valued at RMB 3,000 through Baojun dealers.
