Earlier this week, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) introduced its first SUV, the Baojun 560, at Auto Shanghai 2015. Developed by SGMW, the company says the styling is based on the ‘trendy, grand and strong’ design philosophy and aims to be a home on wheels for families.

With a length of 4,620mm, width of 1,820mm, height of 1,750mm and wheelbase of 2,750mm, the Baojun 560 has a spacious interior. The rear seats can be folded in a 60/40 split configuration to accommodate larger items. The Baojun 560 is built on a Lotus chassis. When fully load, the rear overhang is 185mm, enabling it to handle various road conditions.

SGMW says the SUV’s body structure consists of more than 55 percent high-strength steel. The company has adopted industry-leading thermoforming and laser welding technology for the Baojun 560’s production to ensure the highest level of quality and durability.

The Baojun 560 incorporates GPS, Bluetooth, FM radio and a CD player. An 8-inch LCD infrared touch-screen enables users to display information from their smartphones. The SUV also comes with push button start, a multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, folding outside mirrors, a six-way power adjustable driver’s seat, electronic constant temperature control, and independent air outlets and reading lamps in the rear seats.

The Baojun 560 is powered by a 1.8-litre VVT-iTECH aluminium engine developed by SGMW and mated to a five-speed manual transmission. It develops maximum power of 135bhp and maximum torque of 186 Nm.

The Baojun 560 has many active and passive safety features as standard. They include four airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), front parking radar and a backup camera.
