SAIC-GM-Wuling gets over 10,000 orders for new Baojun 730 MPV in 52 hours

SAIC-GM-Wuling says it has received more than 10,000 orders for the Baojun 730 seven-seat family vehicle within 52 hours of its launch.

The joint venture announced its newest model simultaneously on its official website, Weibo and WeChat at 7:30 a.m. on July 30. On the first two days, a Baojun 730 was ordered an average of every 43 seconds.

The Baojun 730 is the second MPV offered by SAIC-GM-Wuling. Sales of the Wuling Hong Guang MPV family in the first six months of 2014 totaled 371,600 units, which represented an increase of 71 percent from the same period last year. The Hong Guang MPV family ended the first half of 2014 with more than 40 percent of its market segment.

The Baojun 730 is sold at 2,600 Wuling and Baojun outlets across China. Four variants equipped with a choice of 1.5-litre or 1.8-litre engines are available.

GM and its joint ventures offer the broadest lineup of vehicles and brands among automakers in China. Passenger cars and commercial vehicles are sold under the Baojun, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Jiefang, Opel and Wuling brands. In 2013, GM sold nearly 3.2 million vehicles in China.
