The Mahindra Group-owned design and styling house Pininfarna SpA has appointed Carlo Bonzanigo as its new design director. It's a homecoming of sorts for Bonzanigo, who began his career as a designer with Pininfarina 22 years ago.

Bonzanigo, who will report directly to CEO Silvio Pietro Angori, will take the place of Fabio Filippini, who is leaving the company on March 31, 2017 for personal reasons.

Fifty-year-old Carlo Bonzanigo, who will join Pininfarina on January 9, 2017, graduated from the Polytechnic of Zurich and has a Masters of Arts in Transportation Design from the Art Center College of Design in Vevey, Switzerland. He began his career as a designer with Pininfarina Design in 1995. In 2004, he joined the PSA Group dealing with Citroën and had various roles of responsibility including that of head of the Concept Car and Advanced Design of the Group PSA Peugeot Citroën.

In 2015 Bonzanigo moved to Q-ID of Forlì, a company which specialises in automotive and industrial design, as director of the Automotive Division of Q-ID Industrial Design. He is also a director of the Design Studio Q-Red in Maranello, Italy, as well as a consultant for Ferrari Design, Maranello.

In a tweet earlier today, Anand Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, said: “Congratulations Carlo! May you take Pininfarina SpA – a legendary design marque – to even greater heights.”
