Nissan sells 460,806 units globally in May 2018, US sales overtakes China

In May 2018, Nissan sells 3,773 units more in the US than in China. As compared to the previous month, the sales in the US increased by 44,068 units.

Japanese carmaker Nissan has reported selling 460,806 units globally in May 2018, a decrease of 0.1 percent YoY. The sales were primarily driven by overseas markets, which constituted around 90.96 percent of the total sales. As compared to the previous month, it sold 44,068 units more than in the US.

The company reported that its global production volume has decreased by 3.2 percent (464,024 units) in May 2018. For January-May 2018, Nissan’s global production figure stood at 2,303,569 units, a drop of 3.6 percent as compared to the earlier year. In comparison to other regions, Nissan enjoyed its highest sales figures from North America (171,315) and the US (131,832) in the month of May 2018.

Nissan states that it sold 2,347,999 units between January-May 2018 with reference to 2,391,446 units for the same period last year. 

The production numbers were largely driven by China with 603,324 units during January-May 2018 as compared to 554,438 units in 2017. The figures from China were closely followed by the US (363,881) and a cumulative posting from Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, South Africa, Indonesia, Brazil, India, Egypt, Russia, France and South Korea (360,790). 

The exports to North America decreased by 17.8 percent Y-o-Y. As compared to the previous month, the exports from Japan reduced by 14,722 units. With a total export figure of 37,666 units indicated a Y-o-Y rise of 6.1 percent.
