A survey done by Morgan Stanley at its conference on “Future of Transportation Symposium” saw 2/3 of respondents believing fully autonomous vehicles (Level 5) will account for the majority of global miles traveled by 2035.
The company in its report estimates penetration of autonomous vehicle to account for 5 percent of miles traveled by 2035 to be a strong number and it estimates vast majority of miles traveled by 2035 to have some level of automation.
The argument is strongly based on moral, ethical, legal and regulatory impediments that will come along they way and not due to their views on technological limitations.
Technology firms Tesla, Google, Apple, and cab aggregators Uber, Lyft, etc are seen to be in a better position for Auto 2.0 than traditional OEMs with a ratio of 8 to 1. Technology and Telecom firms were seen to be better positioned to monetize on passenger data than OEMs by nearly 4 to 1.
48 percent of respondents expect EVs to account for more than 20 percent of light vehicles by 2030.
Used cars prices are expected to come down by almost 10 percent over the next three years, the survey concluded.
