Magna International Inc has announced that the company is supplying its next-generation Actimax transfer case to power the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system of the new 2015 BMW X4.

The X4 marks the 20th BMW model utilising Actimax for a highly dynamic as well as fuel-efficient AWD system and further strengthens Magna’s market leadership in the sector. Magna is currently the largest independent 4WD/AWD supplier globally with approximately 28 percent of the $7 billion (Rs 42,980 crore) market.

“This latest cooperation with the BMW Group exemplifies our customers’ confidence in our ability to deliver best-in-class products that lead to market advantages for them. As we enter into our 11th year supplying the BMW Group with our transfer case technology, we are excited about the opportunities it brings in helping us grow our leadership position in the global market,” said Jake Hirsch, president of Magna Powertrain.

The system detects and continuously monitors road conditions to deliver ideal torque distribution in every situation. It thereby allows for maximum driving stability and fuel efficiency while meeting the highest levels in performance, agility and driving pleasure.

Actimax provides automatic and pre-emptive AWD performance to enhance drivability and safety in the X4. As with all of Magna’s Actimax transfer cases, the product also provides improved operating efficiency due to an innovative pump-less design.

With the X4 being built in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Magna manufactures and ships the Actimax transfer case from its powertrain facilities in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. Magna has supplied the Actimax transfer case for all BMW xDrive models since 2003.
