Land Rover has announced its innovative Ingenium diesel engine will be introduced to the Discovery Sport in September this year.

Land Rover has announced its innovative Ingenium diesel engine will be introduced to the Discovery Sport in September this year.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine is designed to deliver class-leading torque and power outputs, combined with excellent refinement, reduced CO2 emissions and lower fuel consumption.
Buyers will be able to choose from a 148bhp version of the power unit with 280lb ft of torque, delivering 57.7mpg/20.4kpl and emissions of 129g/km, or a 178bhp, 424lb ft unit, delivering 53.3mpg/18.8kpl and 139g/km. They replace the existing diesel power units in EU6 markets.
Murray Dietsch, director of Land Rover Programmes, said: “Land Rover’s new family of Ingenium engines is truly class leading. By introducing it to the Discovery Sport, we can now offer enhanced fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions, while improving overall performance.”
The new aluminium TD4 engine features lightweight construction, with stiff cylinder blocks and decoupled injectors, which ensures low levels of vibration and noise intrusion, further enhancing the driver experience.
A series of advanced technologies reduce internal friction, improve refinement and enhance overall performance. In addition, Selective Catalytic Reduction and a new low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system significantly reduce both CO2 and NOx emissions.
The Ingenium-powered Discovery Sport TD4 150PS will be designated as an E-Capability vehicle, with blue Sport badging highlighting it as the most efficient vehicle in the ranges. It will be sold on 18-inch wheels and low rolling resistance tyres, and be the only car in the range available as a five seater.
All other versions are sold in a 5+2 arrangement. The E-Capability car will be sold with a six-speed manual only, whereas the 178bhp models get a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or nine-speed manual.
Land Rover’s Ingenium engines are manufactured in the UK at the company’s new state-of-the-art £500 million (Rs 4,921 crore) Engine Manufacturing Centre in the West Midlands, which is set to produce 450,000 Ingenium engines each year.
