Iveco’s Crossway Elec wins Sustainable Bus of the Year 2024 award

Having won the 2018, 2020 and 2023 Sustainable Bus of the Year awards in the intercity category, Iveco Bus has bagged yet another award in the same category. The company’s new Crossway Low Entry Elec has been crowned 'Sustainable Bus of the Year 2024'.

This 100% electric vehicle, recently introduced in the Crossway range, completes the zero-emission offer offered by the manufacturer to support the energy transition.

The jury of the Sustainable Bus Award made up of journalists representing eight European countries – Italy, France, Germany, Finland, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, Romania and Spain – paid particular attention to the cross-cutting principles of sustainable development, including the ability to establish a positive image of the vehicle among the general public. Different aspects come into play, such as safety, comfort, noise level, recyclability of components and the manufacturer's environmental commitments. The jury also highlighted the many possible development solutions for interurban transport.

The Crossway Le Elec is equipped with a 310-kW central electric motor. It is powered by an NMC lithium battery assembled by FPT Industrial. This latest-generation modular battery concept offers excellent standards in terms of energy density and charging capacity. The packs of 5, 6 or 7 batteries, distributed on the roof and in the rear compartment, offer 346, 416 and 485 kWh respectively for the Class I version and 416 and 485 kWh for the Class II version. The vehicle delivers high performance with a range of around 400 km, sufficient to fully carry out missions that extend beyond the heart of the city with no local emissions.

Available in class I (12 metres) for urban uses and class II (12 & 13 metres) for suburban missions, the Crossway Low Entry ELEC is a zero-emission solution available to regions, departments and cities wishing to implement carbon-free mobility projects.

"We are delighted to receive the 'Sustainable Bus of the Year 2024' award with our Crossway Low Entry ELEC. It is an important recognition of our capacity for innovation and all the advances that have resulted from this work to anticipate the evolution of the public transit industry. This award confirms our long-standing commitment to ever more sustainable mobility and our ambition to drive the energy transition with our low-carbon solutions. It is with great pride that we receive this fourth ‘Sustainable Bus of the Year’ title in the intercity category with the Crossway, the undisputed leader in its segment," commented Domenico Nucera, President, Bus Business Unit, Iveco Group, at the award ceremony at Busworld in Brussels, Belgium.
