Hella’s battery module solutions win innovation award in China
Industry Developing & Innovation Award recognises PowerPack 48 Volt and Dual Voltage BMS as key enablers for CO2 savings in mild hybrids
Hella’s PowerPack 48 Volt and Dual Voltage battery management system have been recognised as key enablers for CO2 savings in mild hybrids by Automobile and Parts, one of the leading industry magazines in China.
Against the background of ever tightening emission targets, the 48V mild hybrid powertrain is a cost-efficient bridging technology to support car manufacturers to achieve emission targets in short and medium term. Lighting and electronics expert Hella supplies subsystems in the field of electromobility. Core products in this context are innovative system solutions for mild hybrids such as the PowerPack 48 Volt and the Dual Voltage Battery Management System.
“Winning the Industry Developing & Innovation Award is an important acknowledgement of the development work by Hella’s team and it confirms Hella’s commitment to make driving more efficient with innovative solutions for battery and power electronics,” said Michael Weitert, vice-president at the Hella Technical Center in Shanghai when receiving this award. “The Dual Voltage Battery Management System and PowerPack 48 Volt provide key enablers for CO2 savings in mild hybrid vehicles.”
For larger vehicles, Hella developed the Powerpack 48 Volt. It connects a lithium-ion battery block with the BMS and DC/DC converter. For the compact class there is the Dual Voltage Battery Management System which bundles the conventional, separate core elements of 48 V hybridisation (48 V battery, 12 V battery and DC/DC converter) in a single product with the package space of a conventional lead-acid battery. The new solutions enable savings of 5 to 6 grams of CO2 per kilometer and thus help to achieve CO2 targets in the short term.
