FlixBus to begin pilot operations for long distance e-buses

FlixBus will begin testing of e-buses on its long-distance routes as part of its green mobility solution efforts. The e-buses will operate on long distance routes in France and Germany.

European long-distance mobility provider, Flixbus, has announced that it will begin testing of the world’s first all-electric long-distance bus line in France and Germany.

FlixBus, Europe’s largest long-distance mobility provider, is now investing in e-mobility and will begin tests of using e-buses on its long-distance routes. Starting April, the company will beging operations for the first all-electric Flix-e-buses fleet test operations on its premiere route between Paris and Amiens, France.

The second Flix-E-Bus will start operations on the Hessen and Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany route, in Summer 2018 as part of its plans to expand the German domestic network for summer travellers.

Andre Schwammlein, founder and CEO, FlixBus said, “As a provider, we are demonstrating that this is a potential turning point in mobility. Likewise, the first all-electric long-distance bus is a signal to bus manufacturers to drive innovation and develop alternatives to pure diesel vehicles. Sustainable mobility is not only about driving business but is also about the social and environmental aspects of travelling."

In addition to international routes, the company states approximately 140 new destinations will be added in German-speaking countries alone, with further routes planned across the 26 markets in which FlixBus currently operates.
