Electrify America partners Simon for 350 kW DC fast chargers in California

The fast chargers are said to be the first of its kind in California that could charge an EV at 20 miles per minute.

Electrify America, an eco-friendly initiative created by the Volkswagen Group of America for financially sustainable business opportunities that advance the use of Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) technology in the US, partners with Simon, a global leader in premier shopping, dining, entertainment and mixed-use destinations for what is claimed to be California’s first location for electric vehicle (EV) charging systems with recharging speeds of up to 350 kilowatts (kW).

As part of its ongoing sustainability strategy, Simon teamed with Electrify America to open 10 DC fast chargers at San Francisco premium outlets today for public use. The charging site features eight 150 kW chargers and two 350 kW chargers.  The 350 kW chargers are capable of recharging an electric vehicle at 20 miles (32 km) a minute providing 200 miles (321 km) of vehicle driving range in just 10 minutes.

Jamal Porter, west regional vice president of management for San Francisco premium outlets said, “We are delighted to be the first location in California to offer EV owners the fastest charging option available in the U.S. ”

The 10 Electrify America chargers are co-located with 20 Tesla Superchargers making San Francisco premium outlets one of the nation's largest multi-standard fast charging sites.

In addition to San Francisco Premium outlets, Electrify America will install charging systems at Simon locations nationwide including 17 centres in California, with 95 additional chargers. The Volkswagen group of America is investing $ 2 billion (Rs 14,205 crore) for over 10 years in the initiative.
